Dominus Gladiatus Equipment: Defense, Damage and Weapon Range

Understand fixed weapon damage, the newer armor-based Defense skill and minimum range before relying on old combat descriptions.

Which equipment information should you read now?

Compare the current weapon’s Damage and Range, the armor actually equipped and the relevant trained skills. The November 2 update improves those displays and changes weapons to fixed damage instead of rolling within a range.

That does not mean every resulting hit must be identical. The same update documents conditional bonus damage from Deadly Strike, for example. A fixed weapon value and all the effects active during combat are different parts of the question.

What does Defense do after its rework?

The October 7 patch says Defense increases the Armor provided by each equipped armor piece. This replaces the older August description involving a chance to reduce incoming damage by a flat amount.

Use the newer effect when assessing equipment. The source does not give a full per-rank Armor table or a universal damage-reduction equation, so this guide does not calculate an assumed effective-health score.

Training and skill changes explains other effects that changed again before launch, including Armor Mastery’s replacement by Last Stand.

Why can a spear or Trident struggle at close range?

The September 6 update adds a minimum attack range for Spears and Tridents. A longer weapon’s listed reach therefore does not establish that it works equally well at every distance.

The November patch improves melee range checks and close-range Dodge Roll behavior, but does not publish exact distances for every weapon. Inspect the current range information rather than copying a numeric claim from an old screenshot.

Because fights are auto-battles, this page does not invent a manual movement or attack command. Read the actual matchup and equipment roles before preparing the team. Arena readiness covers availability and the preparation view.

Do clashes, helmets and killing blows follow old rules?

November removes helmet-block pushback and says opening attacks can no longer clash. It also limits consecutive weapon clashes and makes other combat-interaction improvements.

An October clip showing helmet pushback is consequently not proof of the latest published behavior. Similarly, a weapon causing a particular death animation does not establish its exact damage or a guaranteed execution chance.

The latest note says killed gladiators can drop equipment. “Can” is not a promise that every item is always recovered. Do not budget as if a fatal match guarantees the entire loadout returns.

How do you change or recover equipment?

The August 30 notes allow unequipping directly from the fighter’s equipment screen. September also changes the selling interface: gladiator sales move to the Dominus tab, while the Armory has its own item-selling functions.

The recruitment guide separates selling a fighter from an item’s current sale value. Before confirming an irreversible sale, inspect the current confirmation and inventory rather than relying on a historical price list.

If a displayed weapon value or unequip action appears inconsistent, capture the item, skill ranks, equipment screen and build information for the official discussions.

Is there a verified best class or complete equipment table?

Not in the primary material collected here. The sources identify particular mechanics and rebalances, but do not provide every class’s equipment restrictions, current rank caps, prices, damage values or matchups.

Use those boundaries when comparing builds. Difficulty and rewards explains why a stronger Ruthless opponent is not simply a universal damage multiplier, and crowd favor covers another influence on an otherwise close fight.

Which sources establish these changes?

Checked November 5, 2026. Rules are attributed to their demo/pre-release updates; no tested DPS ranking is claimed.
